Quercus pagoda, commonly known as the cherrybark oak, is a large deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It is valued for its tall, straight trunk and high-quality timber, which closely resembles that of red oak. The tree typically grows 25 to 35 meters tall, with a broad, rounded crown that provides ample shade. Its deeply lobed, glossy green leaves resemble those of the southern red oak but have a more symmetrical, pagoda-like shape, which gives the species its name. In autumn, the foliage turns rich shades of red and brown, adding striking seasonal color. Cherrybark oak thrives in well-drained bottomlands, along river terraces, and fertile upland soils, where it plays an important ecological role in supporting wildlife with its acorns. This oak is also a valuable ornamental and timber tree, appreciated for both its aesthetic appeal and durable wood.
