Cordia sebestena, commonly known as the Geiger tree, is a small evergreen tree admired for its brilliant orange-red flowers and robust, tropical appearance. Native to the Caribbean and parts of Central America, it typically grows 15–25 feet tall with a broad, rounded crown and thick, dark green, rough-textured leaves that give it a distinctive, rugged character. Its showy tubular blossoms appear throughout much of the year, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies and creating a vivid contrast against the foliage. The tree produces small, pear-shaped, bright orange fruits that are somewhat sticky and not generally eaten. Cordia sebestena thrives in warm climates, tolerates salt spray and drought, and is well suited for coastal landscapes, urban plantings, and ornamental gardens where vibrant color and resilience are desired.
