Cassia grandis, commonly known as the pink shower tree, is a large, fast-growing tropical tree belonging to the Fabaceae family, native to Central and South America, particularly in countries such as Costa Rica, Panama, and Venezuela. It is highly valued for its striking ornamental qualities, characterized by a broad, spreading canopy and pinnate leaves composed of numerous small, oval leaflets that create a delicate, feathery appearance. One of its most distinctive features is its spectacular display of large, elongated clusters of fragrant pink to rosy-red flowers, which typically bloom in the dry season before the new leaves emerge, creating a vibrant and eye-catching spectacle. Following flowering, Cassia grandis produces impressive, cylindrical, dark brown seed pods that can reach up to 50 centimeters in length, containing hard, shiny seeds embedded in a sweet, sticky pulp that is sometimes used locally as a natural laxative. The tree thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, demonstrating good drought tolerance once established, and it can reach heights of 20–30 meters in optimal conditions. In addition to its ornamental appeal, Cassia grandis plays an ecological role by attracting bees, butterflies, and birds, providing food and habitat, while also improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation. Its combination of bold floral display, impressive seed pods, and adaptability makes it a popular choice  for parks, avenues, and tropical landscapes.
