Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, commonly known as the Bangalow palm or king palm, is a graceful, fast-growing palm native to the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia. It typically reaches heights of 40 to 80 feet, featuring a slender, smooth gray trunk topped with a bright green crownshaft and a dense canopy of feathery, arching fronds. The pinnate leaves can grow up to 10 feet long, creating an elegant, tropical appearance. In summer, it produces clusters of small, creamy-white flowers, followed by bright red, berry-like fruits that attract birds. Preferring moist, well-drained soils and partial shade to full sun, Archontophoenix cunninghamiana thrives in humid, frost-free climates. Widely used as an ornamental tree in tropical and subtropical landscapes, it adds a lush, vertical accent to gardens, streetscapes, and coastal plantings.
