Pulsatilla chinensis, commonly known as Chinese pasque flower, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to China and other parts of East Asia. Belonging to the Ranunculaceae family, it is prized for both its medicinal properties and its ornamental beauty. The plant typically grows 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) tall, forming clumps of finely dissected, feathery foliage that creates a soft, delicate texture in gardens. In early spring, it produces nodding, bell-shaped flowers with silky, purple to violet petals and bright yellow stamens, which are followed by distinctive feathery seed heads that persist into summer, adding textural and visual interest. Pulsatilla chinensis prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soils and thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it suitable for rock gardens, borders, or naturalized meadow settings. The plant is relatively low-maintenance and tolerant of cold winters. Its combination of early spring blooms and ornamental seed heads makes Pulsatilla chinensis both a beautiful and culturally important species in East Asian horticulture.
