The Chinese Tulip Tree is one of the two species of tulip trees; the other species is the American tulip tree. It is very similar to the American species but the leaves are more deeply lobed and the flowers do not have orange pigment on the petals. The young leaves are burgundy in color. It grows up to 130 feet in height. L. chinense is native to Central and southern China, where it grows in forests. In the wild it is rare and it grows in small populations. It is grown as an ornamental tree and it is used for lumber. Hardy in zones 6-9.
