Gladiolus communis, commonly known as common gladiolus or field gladiolus, is a perennial flowering plant in the iris family (Iridaceae). Native to the Mediterranean region, it grows in open meadows, rocky slopes, and scrublands, thriving in well-drained soils and sunny locations. The plant produces slender, upright stems that can reach 30–90 cm in height, bearing narrow, sword-shaped leaves arranged in a fan-like pattern at the base.

In late spring to early summer, Gladiolus communis displays spikes of funnel-shaped flowers, typically bright magenta to deep pink, each with delicate markings or pale streaks on the lower petals. The blooms are arranged along one side of the flowering stem, creating a graceful, elegant appearance.

This species is valued both in gardens and in naturalized settings for its color and resilience. It attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and once established, it can tolerate dry conditions. Gladiolus communis spreads by small corms and can form attractive colonies over time, making it a charming choice for wildflower gardens or Mediterranean-style landscapes.
