The Golden Thryallis is a delightful shrub that has upright clusters of bright yellow flowers. It is a native of eastern Mexico and is often cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions for its abundant flowers which are produced during a long blooming season throughout much of the year. It is drought tolerant, and is easy to grow. The foliage is fine textured, which compliments the delicate flower clusters. Leaves are small, oval, light to medium green and glaucous. The flowers are followed by small, 3-angled fruits that contain 3 seeds. It is used as a hedge, in borders, foundation plantings and as a specimen plant. Since it has a fast growth rate, it is also used as a flowering annual and a potted plant in temperate regions. It is a low maintenance plant and is also used in xeriscaping. It has been used in traditional herbal medicine and as an herbal supplement for hay fever and allergies.
