Iris sibirica, known as the Siberian iris, is a graceful herbaceous perennial admired for its slender, upright foliage and elegant early-summer blooms. Native to meadows and riverbanks of Europe and western Asia, it forms dense clumps of narrow, grasslike leaves reaching 60–90 centimeters tall, adding fine texture to plantings even when not in flower. Its blossoms rise on tall stems, typically in velvety shades of violet-blue to purple, though cultivars expand the palette to white, pink, and bicolor patterns. Durable and cold-hardy, Siberian iris thrives in moist but well-drained soils and adapts well to garden borders, naturalized settings, and waterside landscapes, offering long-lasting beauty, resilience, and excellent wildlife value for pollinators.
